Meet our BBoH Guest Artist, Christopher-Joel Carter, Organist 〰️

Christopher-Joel Carter, is an internationally recognized and award-winning career pianist, organist, and recording artist.  At  the age 11, Christopher began professionally playing the organ and for civic, sacred, and educational institutions.

Christopher-Joel is the reigning champion of the Liberace Piano Competition (2008) and was invited to live and perform in Las Vegas as the headlining pianist at then the brand new M Resort & Casino.  He also has been featured as guest artist at other hotels, theatres, and casinos such at Caesar’s, and The Paris.   C.J.  has shared the billboard with entertainers such as Natalie Cole, Alan Jackson, ABC, Wang Chung, Marie Osmond, Cutting Crew, Siegfried & Roy, among myriad others. Christopher released his first self-titled album in 2010 , a set of classic cocktail tunes, with Christopher's distinct arranging skills on full parade.  

In 2013, Christopher made his collaborative debut with flutist, Jeremy Benson at Carnegie Hall, performing the music of the Japanese composer Yuko Uebayashi, and Cesar Franck. In April of 2021, Benson & Carter, presenting the music of Robert Muczynski and their own "Gershwin Fantasy" -won second place in the Music International Grand Prix in Washington D.C. 

Christopher-Joel is the principal organist and pianist at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, a position he began in  2016.  He is the creator and host of the Trinity Keyboard Series, a concert series of seasonal performances and collaborations featuring Christopher’s unique style of entertainment, with the goal of fundraising for the Moller pipe organ and Baldwin concert grand piano, at Trinity.   With arranging and composing as a secondary hobby, his vocal compositions have been performed at Carnegie Hall, and the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.  A member of the American Guild of Organists, he has also served as Dean of the greater Huntsville chapter.  In 2024, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Christopher was the piano soloist for the JSU Civic Symphony, and the Tennessee Valley Festival Orchestra.  

Christopher studied piano with Margery McDuffie Whatley, and Organ with Dan Lawhon, and holds the degree of piano and organ performance.  He has participated in master-classes with organist Cameron Carpenter, pianists Olga Kern, Ruth Slenczynska, Martin Katz, composers Milton Babbitt, John Corigliano, and George Crumb.
